We told you eggs were trendy. Well here we have Eggslut, due to announce its first London location very soon. Signature dish is a coddled egg on top of smooth potato puree, poached in a glass jar, topped with gray salt and chives, served with slices of baguette. There's also scrambled eggs, chives, cheese and honey mustard aioli served in a warm brioche bun. Dunno what the vegans will eat ... weird name for a restaurant too.
Never has so much fun been had at a staff Christmas party. Cooking our own steaks at Cheers. Bury St Edmunds. 10 out of 10 for customer service and putting up with us. All you can eat and drink for £27.50 per person. Merry Christmas!

We're liking the wine on tap and the bagnums at Weino Bib in Dalston. Drink in or take away or in our case do both. The Tap Room and Deli also sells fresh, raw milk. Take your bottles and fill them up.

I'll bang on the glass 'till I get one. Apart from my own of course, these are some of the best sausage rolls in West Suffolk. Just as I took this snap someone came along and bought them both so Scarlett and I ate an excellent Chicken Caesar salad and the daily special sandwich of Battered Smoked Haddock, Mushy Peas, Tartare Sauce with Cos lettuce. Had to go and see why everybody's been wow-ing about the Southern French, wood fired cooking at Sardine. (Hoxton of course). There's was a taste of Italian and Spanish cuisine on the menu too, which at lunch time was a short and precise offering, with an excellent value 'prix fixe', £20 for three courses. The space is small with a large communal table in the middle and a few smaller tables for those less sociable. Food was as delicious as it sounded, slightly rustic but flavours punching above their weight. Not many places these days that settle for simple plating but that's just what we loved about it. Not a tweezer in sight.

Peckish in Kings Lynn? Then head to Goldings. It calls itself a public house but walking in you might think deli or coffee shop. It is the side kick to the successful and well know Market Bistro next door. With an excellent cup of coffee we had savoury croissants and some rather lovely cakes.

After working all day at Holkham I couldn't leave for home without a hunting out a tasty bit of fish for supper. The problem is everywhere gets booked up in the season and I didn't want fish and chips and hadn't got time for a full 3 course meal. Chancing it I stuck my head in the door at the nearby Wells Crab House and the lovely Maitre D' offered my daughter and I the bar seat (more of a shelf, but a perfectly good place to eat a snack). We ordered four starters: Potted Shrimps (pictured) A crab tart. Smoked Mackerel Fishcakes and Pan fried Scallops with a ham fritter. Perfectly hitting the spot and washed down with an alcohol free Adnams Ghost Ship. More about Drinks for Drivers in another blog.

The best place for breakfast and to lift the spirits for my daughter after yet another operation at UCLH. 30 years of leg equalisation treatment and the after effects of pins and plates being removed from her bones deserves The Big Breakfast at Honey and Co. Warren Street. 4 minutes hobble from the hospital. We ordered everything!

A cafe in Walsham le Willows that I've been meaning to try and it's on my doorstep, so off for a birthday breakfast with Mr SF on a gloriously warm June morning. We were the first to arrive and sat outside to enjoy our scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on sourdough toast. (Woosters bread, woo hoo!) Then a second round of an American pancake with fresh fruit and honey. Divided opinion on this, and I don't think cooked to order as although light and fluffy it lacked that straight out of the frying pan edge. Mind you the fruit was freshly sliced and the honey runny and enjoyable. Coffee was robust, very drinkable so we had two each. This cafe has a gorgeous garden and friendly staff, although they need to be more careful about recording what the customers eat as we were undercharged. Maybe not everyone has two courses at breakfast? I did point out the missing items from the bill by the way.
